3 of the Most Common Skin Issues for Men and the Best All-Natural Solutions

3 of the Most Common Skin Issues for Men and the Best All-Natural Solutions

Typically, the topic of skincare is focused on women. It’s the women we see in commercials — cleansing their face with a special face product in one ad and then complaining about the dryness of their legs before slathering on a fancy cream in the next. But the truth is, men have skin issues, too. And at Bend Soap Company, we’ve developed a unique line of all-natural, goat milk-infused products to address every single one.

Three of the Most Common Skin Issues Affecting Men

Here’s a look at the three most common skin issues affecting men, plus our suggestions on how you can fix them fast.

Jock Itch & Athlete’s Foot

While equally frustrating and uncomfortable, jock itch and athlete’s foot appear to be two completely different conditions. But even though they affect different parts of the body, these issues are both triggered by the same cause: Fungus.

In areas that are warm and moist — like creases in the groin or feet that are trapped in sweaty gym socks — this fungus grows and spreads, causing redness and, of course, itching. The good news is that it’s not that serious and can be treated with an antifungal agent. But while most over-the-counter products are certainly helpful in getting the problem under control, they’re also full of a host of chemical ingredients that can cause further irritation.

According to WebMD, common side effects of 2% miconazole nitrate, a common topical antifungal, include “burning, stinging, swelling, irritation, redness, pimple-like bumps, tenderness, or flaking of the treated skin.” That doesn’t sound like a solution at all!

Tea Tree Goat Milk Soap

The all-natural solution for jock itch and athlete’s foot

Because goat milk has natural antifungal properties, it presents an ideal way to kill off the yeasts that cause jock itch and athlete’s foot without any of the horrible side effects. We recommend soaking in our Tea Tree Milk Bath to allow the healing benefits of goat milk — and the antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal benefits of tea tree essential oil — to deeply penetrate even the most hidden areas. Not much of a bath person? Grab a bar of our Tea Tree Goat Milk Soap instead.

Razor Burn

Razor burn can arise from a handful of different situations like dry shaving, using irritating shaving products, or shaving with a dull blade. Ultimately, the most effective, surefire way to prevent and avoid the itching, irritation, and bumps that can cover a man’s face altogether is to completely avoid shaving. But that’s a possibility for a lot of men out there. Using a clean razor with a sharp blade is a must, but so is coating the skin with enough lather to lubricate the blade and provide a protective barrier above the skin. Unfortunately, most conventional shaving creams are full of harsh chemicals that can actually trigger the irritation most men are trying to avoid.

Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) is a common ingredient in shaving creams as it’s used to create the thick, rich lather that these products are known for. But SLS has also been shown to irritate the skin, eyes, and lungs, while also increasing the risk for organ system toxicity.

When it comes to alternative uses for our goat milk soap, shaving cream is one of our favorites! Not only will the non-GMO, deeply hydrating oils in our soap bars provide an effective lubricant, but the humectant properties of goat milk will keep your skin smooth and moisturized long after your shave.

In addition, our goat milk lotion, made with skin-soothing aloe vera, is the perfect after-shave moisturizer. While after-shave creams and gels typically contain nutrients like vitamins A and E, to help calm the skin and reduce redness and inflammation, goat milk contains those ingredients naturally.

Eczema and Other Rashes

Skin rashes like eczema and psoriasis know no gender discrimination, impacting men just as frequently as women. The National Eczema Association notes that around 16.5 million American adults currently suffer from at least one form of atopic dermatitis, another name for eczema.

While there is no known cure for eczema, there are products and skincare routines that have proven to be more effective than others in soothing the skin and bringing it back to a healthy state. Common treatments for eczema include topical steroids and skin barrier creams. But these treatments can cause serious side effects, including stinging and redness and, in more infrequent cases, blotching or depigmentation of the skin.

We’ve had quite a bit of experience dealing with the effects of this often debilitating condition, as our son, Chance, was diagnosed with eczema when he was still very little. We wanted to take a natural approach to his treatment and began by addressing his diet and allergies he may have had. Yet despite our valiant efforts — and our belief that skin issues start in the gut — we saw little improvement. As it turned out, the most effective treatment for eczema happens on the inside and the outside.

We finally saw a breakthrough in Chance’s eczema treatment after implementing the following three-pronged approach:

  1. First, we threw out all the conventional soaps, lotions, shampoos, and body washes that were full of toxins and irritating Chance’s skin.

  2. Second, we began giving him regular lukewarm baths in our Oatmeal & Honey Goat Milk Bath. This was critical in allowing the nutrients from the goat milk to penetrate and heal the skin.

  3. Finally, we followed up with our goat milk lotion to lock in the skin’s moisture and relieve dry, itchy skin for good. After just two weeks, Chance’s eczema was completely gone!

I have been using your products and am very happy with them. Will continue to do so. But I do have a question maybe you can clear up for me. I am looking for a face cream to deal with Rinkles and bags under the eyes. Do not have that problem to a great extent right now but want to do something before it gets here.
Right now, I have been using your goat milk lotion on my face every day. What would say about this? I respect your opinion…..
