More Uses for Bend Soap

We’ve been tricked. Somewhere along the line, we bought into the idea that we need a different product for each of our skincare, hair care, and beauty needs. Consequently, our bathrooms are overflowing with a seemingly endless supply of bottles, tubes, aerosol cans, and more. When we get around to sorting through it, we end up convincing ourselves that we’ll use the products again someday, or that a particular years-old product has its own special purpose that can’t be compensated with anything else. This is simply not true.

At Bend Soap Company, we’re passionate about creating products that allow our customers to declutter their lives and implement a handful of natural products into their everyday routines. We’re here to prove that you don’t need a dozen different products to fit your beauty needs. We urge you to toss products loaded with toxins and replace them with clean, all-natural, skin nourishing products like ours.

We’ve compiled a list of the many ways our family, staff, and customers use our products. From a natural shampoo bar to DIY laundry detergent, check out all of the various ways you can use your Bend Soap Co. products below.

Goat Milk Soap

Using Goat Milk Soap as Shampoo

Shampoo bars are all the rage these days. Consumers love them for their eco-friendly packaging and because they tend to last much longer than a traditional bottle of shampoo — especially when they’re cured for six to eight weeks like our bars! Our goat milk soap has a great lather, effectively cleans the skin and hair (especially dry scalps), and will leave your hair looking and feeling fantastic. The most popular  soap scents used as a natural shampoo bar are Oatmeal & Honey, Tea Tree, Eucalyptus Spearmint, and Lemongrass, but if you have a specific scent preference, feel free to try any of our goat milk soaps.

Keep in mind, you may have to endure a short transition period when you first make the switch. Hair texture, scalp pH, and oil production all play a role in how fast your body will adjust to this new soap,  so be patient! Using Goat Milk Soap as Pet Shampoo

For many of us, our pets are more than furry friends — they’re family. Just as we were tormented over our son’s struggle with eczema, many pet owners anguish over their pet’s sensitive skin struggles. Unless you’ve had first hand experience with it, you may be surprised to learn that many pets are prone to skin conditions just like us. Whether it’s your dog, horse, or pet pig, our products can help ease sensitive skin once and for all.

The ingredients we use to make our products are just as nourishing and moisturizing to your pet’s skin as they are to ours, not to mention 100% safe! We recommend using  the Unscented or Oatmeal & Honey Goat Milk Soaps as both of these scents are free of essential oils (an ingredient that’s been known to dry out extra sensitive skin). If you want to opt for one of our essential oil goat milk soaps, we recommend that you consult with your veterinarian on which essential oils are safe to use on your pet first. You may find a scented option is the only sure way to combat the funky smells your pet comes home with.

Using Goat Milk Soap as Dish Soap

Ditching your standard store-bought dish soap for bar soap is yet another great way to cut back on your plastic consumption while sparing your hands from the ultra drying ingredients found in many big name brand dish detergents. With our goat milk soap, you’ll get sparkling clean dishes without exposure to dyes, alcohols, surfactants, or fragrances.

Thanks to the uber moisturizing, sustainably sourced red palm oil used in our soap, you won’t have to sacrifice the bubbly goodness you associate with an effective dish soap. Our bar soap generates a thick, fragrant lather that packs a mean punch against grease, grime, and odor. You’ll be amazed how easily food gunk slides off your pots and pans when your sponge is slathered with Bend Soap. For extra cleaning properties, try our All Shield, Lemongrass or Tea Tree Goat Milk Soaps. These options are loaded with essential oils known for their powerful antibacterial properties. Not only will they wash away bacteria from your sink and on your dishes, they’ll keep bacteria and odor at bay in your sponge, too! We all know the dread of reaching for a sour, mildew-scented sponge that makes the chore of dishwashing that much more unappealing.  With a bar of our goat milk soap, those days are long gone!

Using Goat Milk Soap as Shaving Cream

Looking through your arsenal of products, shaving cream might seem like one that you just can’t give up. We get it — you’ve grown accustomed to the thick, mousse-like foaming cream, the ease of the dispenser, and you probably even love the classic aftershave fragrance. What you might not know is that many store-bought shaving products contain sulfates, phthalates, parabens, preservatives, and other ingredients that are potentially dangerous to your health. Aerosol shaving cream products, in particular, often contain propylene glycol, a common ingredient found in antifreeze and brake fluid. As far as we’re concerned, anything used in engine fluids should definitely not be used on our skin!

The good news is that you can get just as close of a shave — with even healthier skin afterwards — by using a bar of our goat milk soap. Our foamy lather comes from a combination of high-quality, all-natural oils we use in place of the toxic chemicals used in most other big name brand  shaving creams. Together, sustainably sourced red palm oil and olive oil act as our secret agents in creating the thick lather you’ll find and love in each bar of our goat milk soap. Not only that, but these oils are a natural source of vitamin E oil which deeply nourishes your skin from the outside in, leaving it baby soft and smooth.

If you’re worried you’ll miss the familiar fragrances that are often a trademark of shaving products, fret not! With a permanent collection of eleven aromatic scents and a handful of seasonal aromas to choose from, you’re sure to find a new favorite. Check out all of our available options here.

Goat Milk Lotion

Using Goat Milk Lotion as Conditioner

Now that you’re convinced to use our goat milk soap as shampoo (right?!), you’re probably wondering what you should do in regard to your conditioner. Many customers have shared that they don’t even need to use a conditioner after shampooing with our goat milk soap. But,  in the case that you find yourself needing a little extra hydration to tame your tresses, we recommend using a dollop of our goat milk lotion as a leave-in cream conditioner. Just dispense a small amount of lotion into your hands and run your fingers through the damp ends to protect and nourish your hair! Our formula is lightweight, non-greasy, and alcohol free, so it won’t weigh your hair down, cause an oil build up, or leave it looking brittle and lackluster. Instead, you’ll be left with beautiful, commercial worthy hair.

Goat Milk Bath

Using Milk Bath as Laundry Detergent

If you’re one of our many customers with sensitive skin, you’ll be particularly interested in this one. Did you know that laundry detergent is one of the main causes of skin irritation? Most store-bought detergents contain surfactants, bleach, synthetic fragrances, and dyes that can cause mild irritation or even bouts of contact dermatitis if your clothes haven’t been thoroughly rinsed. And if you’re already struggling with a skin condition like eczema or psoriasis, your laundry detergent may be preventing your skin from healing even with the use of our products in your daily skincare routine.

The next time laundry day rolls around, consider making your own homemade detergent with Mama Marilee's Goat Milk Laundry Soap. This recipe was formulated by our co-founder, Marilee Johnson. If you can trust anyone when it comes to cleaning advice, it’s Marilee — the mother of ten children, including seven very active, messy boys. The recipe calls for just four simple ingredients with our shredded goat milk soap as the star ingredient. For your convenience, you’re welcome to purchase our milk bath in bulk one-pound bags or, if you’d prefer, you can shred our bar soap yourself at home. We recommend the Tea Tree, Lemongrass or Eucalyptus Spearmint options for those that like a lasting scent to their clothing, and for those who prefer something more subtle, give the Hint of Lavender, Vienna Rose or Unscented a try! Check out our entire collection of goat milk baths here.

Using Goat Milk Bath as a Foot Soak

No bathtub? No problem. Next time you’re feeling the need to de-stress, relax, and fit in a little “me time”, grab a bucket of warm water, head to your favorite comfy chair, and enjoy a little at home spa session with our top-rated milk bath product. The shreds of goat milk soap will dissolve, infusing the water with revitalizing vitamins, proteins, and enzymes. As the soap seeps into your tired feet, enjoy the aroma and therapeutic qualities of the essential oils.  Your skin will be rejuvenated and you’ll feel like you just got a pedicure (without leaving your house or breaking the budget!) All Natural Salves

Using Salve as a Deep-Conditioning Lip Treatment

Our lip butters are packed with top-notch, lip softening ingredients, but we know that they’re not always enough to treat ultra chapped lips (especially in ultra dry environmental conditions). For those that just can’t seem to keep their lips moisturized, we recommend opting for one of our all-natural salves instead. The calendula and chamomile extracts in our salves are known for their calming and soothing properties. Together, they help combat against redness and relax chapped, brittle, peeling lips. Each of our salves were formulated to cater to specific ailments, but they all aim to soften and moisturize even the most delicate, irritated skin without the stinging or burning sensation you’ll find with common petroleum-based products. The best part is that you can choose from additional scents not available in our lip butter collection like All Shield and Eucalyptus!  Check out all of the salves we have available here.
