News Channel 21 KTVZ Story on Bend Soap

Transcript:

The Bend Soap Company has been making soaps, lotions, and deodorant for cancer patients and people with eczema for almost 5 years now. Their main ingredient? Goats milk! And their goat's have just given birth to... Kids.

Our Dani Fried took the camera and the "goat pro" out to the farm to speak the real "Goat Pro's".

These baby goats are only the start of a great operation the Johnson's have here at Bend Soap Company.

For Marilee and Dwight Johnson at Bend Soap Company, spring means play time for not only their children but their "kids" as well.

"Spring is always a fun time of year because the babies are popping up," says Dwight.

And more kids means more soap.

For almost five years now, Bend Soap Company has been providing soaps, not only to Central Oregonians, but to people all around the world.

The Johnson's started making soap when their son, Chance, was diagnosed with eczema.

"Skin issues are across all genders, all races... Everyone seems to be struggling with some kind of skin issue. We found with goat milk soap, psoriasis, eczema, rosacea... We've had awesome feedback with all of that. And then a lot of people are like, 'I just don't want 15 chemicals on my skin! I switched to your soap, and I LOVE THE WAY I FEEL!'" says Dwight.

Although skin issues are a big portion of the goat operation, the Johnson's goat milk soap is also useful for cancer patients going through chemo.

"And so now we're working with St. Charles hospital here in Bend. We're giving little bars of soap to every one of their cancer survivor patients, people going through the treatment," says Dwight.

With the help Dwight and Marilee have from their children, and the milk the goats give from having their kids, Bend Soap Company is able to make their delicious-smelling and skin-soothing soaps!

"Although Smokey here may not know it yet, she is doing a lot to help the people here in Central Oregon."
