How Coconut Oil Transforms Skin
Coconut oil is a powerful ally for achieving soft, glowing skin. These versatile properties nourish, hydrate, soothe, and protect the skin. This is made possible by its natural composition of fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamins. It hydrates, soothes, and protects the skin. I’m excited to share why coconut oil has become a global beauty staple in skincare routines.
Let’s dive in…
1.) Coconut Oil Sustainability
Coconut oil is derived from mature coconuts, which grow on palm trees known as Cocos nucifera (coconut trees). The cool thing about the coconut palm tree is that it can grow fruit until it's around 80 years old. It typically produces anywhere from 50 to 200 fruits, depending on the climate.
Additionally, harvesting fruit aligns with fair trade practices because it is highly sustainable and less likely to lead to large-scale deforestation than other vegetable oils like palm oil. Making coconut oil an eco-friendly choice.
2.) Coconut Oil Antifungal Benefits
Due to its high lauric acid content, coconut oil possesses many natural antimicrobial effects. Coconut oil is recognized as one of the richest sources of saturated fats, with approximately 90% of its fatty acids consisting of saturated fat.
Although saturated fats has historically been viewed as unhealthy fats, recent research proves that the saturated fat in coconut oil is very healthy for you because it contains medium-chained fatty acids (MCFAs) rather than long-chain fatty acids in steak or cheese. The good thing about MCFAs is that they are metabolized much more easily than long-chain fatty acids."
A key component is that large amounts of it can be absorbed and then go directly to your liver, where it is metabolized like a carbohydrate and converted into energy. Whereas other oils get stored as fat in the body when too much is consumed.
MCFAs are crucial for your skin health. They combat potential skin infections and help treat skin conditions because they possess lauric acid and antimicrobial properties that treat skin infections, acne cellulitis, folliculitis, and athlete's foot, all caused by bacteria or fungi.
3.) Coconut Oil Antibacterial Benefits:
Due to its high concentration of lauric acid, coconut oil boasts powerful natural antibacterial properties. This makes it a powerful ingredient for treating acne and combating breakouts. In fact, it will eliminate propionibacterium acnes, a bacteria that thrives in pores. Incorporating coconut oil into your daily skincare routine will help you see fewer blemishes, along with clearer, healthier skin.
If you are looking for a face cleanser to combat acne outbreaks, find one that contains coconut oil! In addition to combating acne, it also removes dirt, excess oils, and bacteria.
Lauric acid doesn’t just combat acne; it can also treat other skin-related symptoms, such as fungal infections, minor cuts, or scrapes. All you have to do is gently apply the coconut oil to the hurt area, and it will prevent the wound from getting infected, thus speeding up the recovery process.
Coconut oil will make a significant difference if you have experienced suffering from skin conditions such as eczema or rosacea. its potent properties can help prevent these conditions from recurring. Coconut oil provides a practical and gentle solution to common skin concerns. Its ability to nourish and protect is the very reason why we include it in so many of our soaps here at Bend Soap!
4.) Coconut Oil Rich In Antioxidants:
One of the best moves you can make for your skin is to find ingredients rich in antioxidants; lucky for you, coconut oil is one of them. Antioxidants will ultimately contribute to your overall health and well-being and protect your skin from oxidative stress and damage caused by free radicals. If you've never heard of free radicals, they are unstable molecules that damage skin cells, aging, inflammation, and disease. Antioxidants contain powerful properties to counteract this damage by stabilizing free radicals, making them less harmful to the body and skin, which is why they are such a sought-after item in the skincare industry.
Here are some of the key antioxidants found in coconut oil:
Vitamin E (Tocopherols and Tocotrienols)
Vitamin E works to prevent premature skin aging by fighting radicals that enhance wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging. It supports the skin by reducing inflammation and enhancing tissue regeneration. Having both tocopherols and tocotrienols (both types of vitamin E) in coconut oil makes it a powerful ally in skin health because it will enhance its antioxidant effects.
Polyphenols
If you're like me, you're trying to find anything that will reduce the signs of aging caused by the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Lucky for you, Polyphenols do just that. This makes coconut oil a must-have in your skincare routine. Polyphenols destroy free radicals caused by UV rays, pollution, and bad diet habits. Overall, they protect our skin cells against oxidative damage, reduce inflammation, and slow down aging, making you look youthful and radiant.
Since these compounds play a vital role in protecting skin from damage, applying it after sun exposure can be highly beneficial for your skin. It would be like your skin is taking a big sip of a health drink!
Ferulic Acid
One key aspect I always prioritize in my skincare routine is incorporating ingredients that boost and support collagen production. This is why I use coconut oil—it contains ferulic acid, a powerful compound that can stimulate collagen production. If you haven’t heard of the health benefits of collagen production, you must! It is crucial for maintaining skin’s elasticity and firmness and overall will give you a more youthful appearance.
As we age, our collagen production naturally decreases, forming wrinkles and sagging skin. But When you find skincare products high in ferulic acid, you can help reduce these signs of aging, improve skin texture, and maintain a more vibrant, glowy complexion.
Phenolic Compounds
Phenolic compounds are rich in antioxidants, neutralizing unstable molecules that can damage skin cells, contributing to premature aging, wrinkles, and skin conditions like acne or eczema. However, when you use coconut oil on your skin, you put bioactive compounds known for their antioxidants and skin-rejuvenating properties.
Suppose you are someone who suffers from a weak immune system. In that case, coconut oil is the best thing for you because its phenolic compounds support immune health by combating harmful pathogens and environmental toxins, making you less likely to get sick and boosting your overall immune system.
5.) Coconut Oil Is A Natural Moisturizer
Coconut oil is a rock star hydrator due to its high content of fatty acids. These fatty acids lock in moisture, making your skin feel soft and hydrated—ideal for dry, atopic dermatitis, flaky skin, or areas prone to dry patches. It offers long-lasting hydration without relying on harsh chemicals.
Despite being a great hydrator, coconut oil contains emollient properties that repair your skin’s barrier function and protect it by locking in moisture while also preventing transepidermal water loss (where water passes through the skin and evaporates into the air).
This protective layer is beneficial for many reasons. One advantage is that it helps repair the cracks on your outer layers of skin more efficiently, especially for dry skin types.
It combats bacteria like Staphylococcus, which commonly causes skin infections. If you are a dry skin type like me, coconut oil would be a great product to incorporate into your daily skincare regime. It’s also an excellent natural remedy for dry climates or winter skin challenges.
It’s also a fantastic natural remedy for those who live in dry climates or suffer from dry skin during the winter months. When I use coconut oil, my skin is left feeling hydrated and moisturized!
Dandruff Relief
Another surprising benefit of coconut oil is its effectiveness in relieving severe dandruff problems because its high antifungal properties help target Malassezia, the yeast often responsible for dandruff.
Regularly applying coconut oil to your scalp can reduce itching and irritation.
To Conclude…
Coconut oil is a versatile and powerful ingredient that offers a wide range of benefits for skin health. We encourage you to incorporate coconut oil into your daily skincare routine. Science proves that its rich fatty acid content provides deep hydration, while its antifungal and soothing properties help combat dryness, irritation, and dandruff. Its antioxidants are powerful for fighting environmental damage. Coconut oil is a natural and effective solution for achieving soft, healthy, and nourished skin.

Hi Brigitte,
Thanks so much for reaching out! All of our products contain coconut oil or coconut derivatives. If you have an allergy to coconut oil, many of our customers who’ve had reactions to coconut oil in the past find they don’t experience the same issue with our soap and other products. This is often because the reactions are linked to chemicals used in the extraction or production of coconut oil, which aren’t part of our soap-making process or processes in which we make our other products.
If you’re open to giving it a try, we recommend starting with a small patch test on an area like your wrist or elbow to see how your skin responds. Let us know if you have any other questions—we’re here to help!
Hi! Would you let me know which one of your product has Coconut Oil as an ingredient? Thanks
